WHAT IS FASTING

Fasting is about humbling ourselves, seeking God, and making space to hear from God, depend on God, and realign our hearts with God.

We’re giving something up, usually food, to deny our flesh and take authority over the flesh to draw closer to God. Our body grows weak but our Spirit grows strong. We’re telling our flesh it has no authority over us.

Fasting heightens prayer, exposes idols in our lives, builds endurance, aligns us with God’s authority, and builds our spirit.

Fast, seek God, and see what God does in your life and those around you.

FAST A FOOD ITEM

  • Fast a meal each day

  • The Daniel Plan

  • Fast all processed foods & eating out

  • The Daniel Fast

  • Caffeine

DO A DIGITAL FAST

1. Make your smartphone dumb. Delete anything off your phone that you can do on your computer or laptop if necessary.

Extra: turn your phone black & white (greyscale) to

reduce dopamine.

2. Think about your apps in terms of “distraction” vs. “utility.” Ask yourself, “Is this distracting me or is this something useful?”

  • Examples of distraction: social media, email, news apps, games, video apps, web browsers, and shopping apps.

  • Examples of utility: phone, text, calendar, camera, music, weather, maps, notes, building/garage access.

3. Eliminate all other screens for personal use and enjoyment.

  • Examples: TV, gaming devices, streaming services.

4. Limit digital technology to work apps during work hours on your work devices. Commit to no work outside of work hours.

WHAT IS A DIGITAL FAST?

A digital fast is a reset for your brain, attention and heart. Our main focus during the 40 days is to lay down our devices and focus on God.

The purpose of a digital fast is to disconnect from the constant flow of information and online activities to gain mental, emotional and spiritual rejuvenation, reduce screen time-related stress, and promote mindfulness.

By turning down the digital noise, you will experience the time, space and mental clarity to listen to the voice of God.
